John is a Fulbright Senior Specialist and Professor of Law currently serving as a Visiting Professor at the Indian Law Institute. He holds a law degree from Harvard Law School and an LL.M. in Environmental Law from George Washington University Law School, in addition to Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in Biological Science from the University of Illinois. He is the author of seven books, including: Betting the Earth: How We Can Still Win the Biggest Gamble of All Time; Ark of the Broken Covenant: Protecting the World’s Biodiversity Hotspots (2003); and Killing Our Oceans: Dealing with the Mass Extinction of Marine Life (2006). He has also written numerous law review articles dealing with the key environmental issues of our time, and has twice testified before the United States Congress on such topics.
