Call for Abstracts, Papers, and Submissions:<\/strong>

Conceptualizing Ecocide International Conference<\/strong> (abstracts<\/em>)
The Conceptualizing Ecocide conference will take place at Utrecht University, the Netherlands, on October 2-3, 2025. We cordially invite all interested academics, professionals, activists, students, and organizations to submit abstracts that focus on conceptual, theoretical, practical and experiential dimensions of ecocide.\u00a0Please submit your abstract (max. 300 words) and a short bio (max. 150 words) before\u00a0April 15, 2025<\/strong>. Registration for the conference is free of charge.\u00a0\u00a0All applicants will be notified by the end of April 2025 on whether their proposal has been accepted. After the conference, selected papers will be considered for publication.\u00a0See more here<\/a>.

Thicker Notions of Human Rights Accountabilities<\/strong>\u00a0Conference<\/strong> (abstracts<\/em>)
The\u00a0Thicker Notions of Human Rights Accountabilities\u00a0Conference revisits the questions of what qualifies as a human rights violation, who holds human rights duties and how to actually deliver human rights accountability in the context of pressing and complex challenges. It will be hosted by the Future Proofing Human Rights research project in\u00a0Brussels, Belgium from 19-21 November 19-21, 2025. We are inviting contributions that seek to reconstruct the notion of human rights accountability, divided across five themes: Change, Knowing, Duties, Harm, and Remedy. We welcome contributions from a variety of disciplinary backgrounds, including but not limited to law, socio-legal perspectives, criminology, and political science. Routledge Research Companion on Local Governments and Climate Change Governance in Africa<\/strong> (abstracts<\/em>)
The book explores how African cities are turning these commitments into actionable policies and governance strategies to address the pressing realities of climate change. It contributes to generating new scholarly knowledge in the fields of local government law, urban governance, and climate change studies in Africa, through the generation of novel research. We encourage potential authors to submit abstracts of no more than 250 words, on any of the themes or related themes on local government and climate change in Africa.\u00a0Deadline: April 31, 2025<\/strong>. Military Activities and Toxics – issued by Special Rapporteur on Toxics and Human Rights<\/strong>
Purpose:\u00a0To inform the Special Rapporteur\u2019s 2025 thematic report to the United Nations General Assembly. Pursuant to Human Rights Council resolution\u00a054\/10<\/strong>, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on toxics and human rights, Marcos Orellana, will present a thematic report, including recommendations, to the UN General Assembly in October 2025. His thematic report will focus, in accordance with his\u00a0mandate<\/strong>, on military activities and toxics. Deadline: April 1, 2025. See more here<\/a>.

UC Davis Law – Water Justice Clinical Lecturer<\/strong> (Davis CA, USA<\/em>)
The University of California, Davis, School of Law seeks a director for its Water Justice Clinic, starting July 1, 2025. The Clinic is a transactional clinic that provides legal assistance to disadvantaged California communities that lack access to reliable, affordable, and safe drinking water. In addition to meeting the pressing needs of these communities, the Clinic provides valuable training and experience for our law students which helps to create a pipeline of trained and experienced California water attorneys. Iberian Centre for Research in Energy Storage – 4x PhDs, 1 x Postdoc <\/strong>(C\u00e1ceres, Spain)<\/em>
CIIAE is recruiting 4 PhD candidates and 1 postdoc researcher (all 4-years positions) to undertake the European Research Council (ERC) project\u00a0DELaw: Degrowth through Energy Law: Using the legal framework for electricity batteries in Europe to achieve a degrowth-focused energy law<\/a>. The main aim is to find a method to integrate degrowth theory within the Law, with a European focus. The deadline for application is February 23, 2025<\/strong>. The researchers are expected to start around May-June 2025 and the work will be undertaken at CIIAE’s location, on site, not remotely (although 2 days of remote work per week are permitted). The University of Western Australia – Lecturer in Environmental Law<\/strong> (Crawley, Australia<\/em>)
As the appointee, you will be responsible for contributing to the Law School\u2019s teaching programs, research, research supervision and engagement activities and for carrying out the duties of an academic in their field of expertise at their level of appointment. You will teach into the Law School\u2019s undergraduate and postgraduate programs in the area of domestic Environmental Law. On Wednesday, February 19, 2025<\/strong>, Teresa Vicente Gim\u00e9nez (Full Professor and Director of the Chair of Human Rights and Rights of Nature at the University of Murcia), Itziar G\u00f3mez (Full Professor at UC3M and Counsel to the Constitutional Court of Spain) and Guillermo Garc\u00eda Panasco (Prosecutor and Counsel to the Constitutional Court of Spain), will participate in the LXXIX session of the Jes\u00fas Gonz\u00e1lez Amuchastegui Permanent Seminar with the topic ‘The Mar Menor as a Subject of Rights: A dialogue around the ruling of the Constitutional Court of Spain 142\/2024, of November 20, 2024’. The event seeks to be a space for dialogue on the first law and sentence in Spain that recognizes rights to nature, with the participation of some of the actors behind this achievement.
