Climate Change and Reparations <\/strong>(abstracts<\/em>)
We invite expressions of interest for participation in a workshop organized as part of a Partnership Research Project on \u201cClimate Change and Reparations,\u201d to be held at the Universit\u00e9 de Montr\u00e9al on April 15, 2025. For more information about the project, please visit the Global Network for Human Rights and the Environment (GNHRE)\u00a0project page<\/a>.\u00a0Interested participants are invited to submit abstracts of their intended contributions of no more than 300 words by\u00a0January 15, 2025<\/strong>. Towards a Global Ecological-Economic Legal Framework <\/strong>(abstracts<\/em>)
Until recently, International Economic Law (IEL) and International Environmental Law (IEnvL) were largely treated as separate domains. The prevailing assumption was that there was no conflict between them, with each supporting the other, either spontaneously or through purposeful design. It was believed that the pursuit of economic growth <\/strong>and the establishment of a level playing field did not conflict with the goal of preserving a healthy environment <\/strong>or maintaining ecological balance. However, it is now undeniable that the way we produce, consume, invest and trade \u2014 which is shaped by International economic Law \u2014 is the main cause of ecological crises, which are structural and not temporary or limited. Abstracts for the ‘Towards a Global Ecological-Economic Legal Framework’ conference, hosted at the \u00c9cole Normale Sup\u00e9rieure-Paris Sciences et Lettres on June 6-7, 2025, are due February 28, 2025<\/strong>. Symposium Collection of the Transnational Environmental Law Journal – Law, Science and Indigenous Knowledge<\/strong> (papers<\/em>)
In the context of multiple, global environmental crises, policy-makers, scientists, researchers, and activists have identified a critical gap between science and policy in environmental law-making. Law-makers, it is argued, have failed to create rules or develop tools that respond to and address the significant threats that scientists are identifying. Policy instruments do not reflect scientific recommendations. At the same time, scientific research and outputs often fail to engage with the spectrum of concerns that shape the law.

Both law and science institutions are plagued by issues of accessibility and both are shaped by social, economic and geographic determinants that often entrench problematic, exclusionary, neo-colonial practices and priorities. Nowhere is this more apparent than in the ongoing exclusion of Indigenous Peoples, Indigenous knowledge, and Indigenous law in law and science research and practice, domestically and internationally. UCLA School of Law\u2019s Emmett Institute on Climate Change and the Environment is now accepting applications for the UCLA Emmett\/Frankel Fellowship in Environmental Law and Policy for the academic years 2025-2027. This is a full-time two-year fellowship beginning in the summer of 2025. The position involves research and writing in the law and policy of climate change and the environment; teaching; and assisting with Institute projects such as conferences and workshops. King’s College London – Lecturer\/Senior Lecturer in Environmental Law<\/strong> (London, England<\/em>)
The School is seeking to appoint a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Environmental Law. The post-holder will be an outstanding candidate with research interests and teaching expertise in their field of Environmental and Climate Law (broadly defined to include sustainability-related law, including environment, climate, energy, resources). The successful candidate\u2019s principal teaching contribution will be to our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in environmental law. University of Gothenburg – PhD Candidate in Environmental Social Science<\/strong>\u00a0(Gothenburg, Sweden<\/em>)
The School of Global Studies, University of Gothenburg, announces a fully faculty-funded doctoral position in Environmental Social Science on the theme \u201cFarmers as geopolitical actors\u201d. This PhD project will explore the role(s) of farmers as geopolitical actors. Its overarching focus will be how farmers perceive and navigate their role in a changing geopolitical environment and coincident sustainability transformations. Deadline: February 17, 2025<\/strong>.
