Call for Abstracts, Papers, and Submissions:<\/strong>

Law and Development Research Network – Extractivism, Development and Human Rights<\/strong> (abstracts<\/em>)
The Law and Development Research Network (LDRN)<\/a>\u00a0and the\u00a0UFMG Faculty of Law (FDUFMG)<\/a>\u00a0are honoured to announce\u00a0the 7th<\/sup>\u00a0General Conference, taking place at the\u00a0Faculty of Law of the Federal University of Minas Gerais, Brazil,\u00a0between\u00a015 \u2013 18 July 2025. The Conference will discuss a wide variety of themes and subjects relevant to neo-extractive development, human rights, law and development. The Conference welcomes applications from a wide range of researchers and encourages submissions concerned with children\u2019s rights, gender, health, race, poverty, inequality and discrimination as relevant to the theme. Abstracts may be submitted in\u00a0English,\u00a0Spanish,\u00a0or\u00a0Portuguese. The maximum word limit is\u00a0500\u00a0words for individual submissions and 750 words for co-authored submissions. The Right to a Clean, Healthy, and Sustainable Environment Across Regions: Implementation, Enforcement, and Future Directions<\/strong> (abstracts<\/em>)
The Workshop on The Right to a Healthy Environment Across Regions: Implementation, Enforcement and Future Directions will take place at Southampton University, United Kingdom, from April 24 to 25, 2025. It will be jointly organised by the Southampton University Law School, Stockholm Environmental Law and Policy Centre, at Stockholm University, and the Global Network on Human Rights and the Environment (GNHRE).

Sabin Center Colloquium on Innovative Environmental Law Scholarship<\/strong> (paper outlines<\/em>)
This\u00a013th\u00a0Annual Sabin Colloquium will allow junior environmental law scholars to present early-stage work and receive constructive feedback from a panel of senior scholars and from each other. Eligible applicants are pre-tenure professors, fellows, visiting assistant professors, and other junior scholars in similar academic positions.\u00a0 Papers on environmental law, energy law, natural resources law or water law are eligible. No junior scholar may participate in the Colloquium more than twice. To enter, please submit a cover letter, an outline or concept paper of 5 -15 double-spaced pages, and a C.V. to\u00a0sabincolloquium@law.columbia.edu<\/a>\u00a0by March 15.\u00a0The Colloquium will be conducted virtually via Zoom. Postgraduate research opportunities – Strathclyde Centre for Doctoral Training on \u201cPartnerships for Sustainable Innovation\u201d<\/strong> (Glasgow, Scotland<\/em>)
The Centre for Doctoral Training will support four doctoral students who will be jointly supervised by academics from the Business School and Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. Each doctoral student will work on an individual project that explores partnerships for sustainable innovation and social impact in a specific sectoral context. Environmental Advocates NY – Director, Model Laws for Deep Carbonization Project<\/strong> (80-90% remote, 10-20% New York City<\/em> or Albany<\/em>)
This remote project is housed jointly with Environmental Advocates NY (EANY) and the Sabin Center for Climate Change Law at Columbia University. The role combines legal drafting and policy analysis, organizing and outreach, and website management to advance deep decarbonization policies nationwide while supporting state-level climate action in New York. African Synthesis Centre for Climate Change, Environment and Development – 5x Postdocs<\/strong> (Cape Town, South Africa<\/em>)
The African Synthesis Centre For Climate Change, Environment and Development (ASCEND) at the University of Cape Town (UCT) is seeking Postdoctoral Research Fellows (PDRF) with expertise in the areas of environmental law, including environmental impact assessment (EIA), land law, development studies, and climate justice. The five postdoctoral positions are: Forest Landscape Restoration and Climate Adaptation, Climate Justice Centred-Approach to EIAs, Carbon Storage Efforts in African Coastal and Marine Ecosystems, Resilient Animal Source Food Systems, and Climate-Resilient Education Systems. Towards a new UN Convention for the Prevention and Punishment of\u00a0 Crimes against Humanity \u2013 The Way Forward<\/strong> (online)
This International Center for the Study, Prevention and Treatment of MultiGenerational Legacies of Trauma webinar is held to mark the adoption by the United Nations General Assembly Resolution 79\/122 of December 4, 2024, entitled \u201cUnited Nations Conference of Plenipotentiaries on Prevention and Punishment of Crimes against Humanity<\/em>.\u201d Experts from States, NGOs, and academia will discuss the way forward towards the first comprehensive treaty in this critical area of International Law for the protection of victims\u2019 rights, including gender issues, slavery and the slave trade, crimes against the environment, persecution, and other key issues that the progressive development and codification of crimes against humanity may address. Historical Climate Change Legal Proceedings: IUCN\u2019s participation and Implications Going Forward<\/strong> (online<\/em>)
IUCN has participated in the historical climate change proceedings before the International Court of Justice, the highest judicial body of the United Nations. In this webinar, IUCN Lead Counsel Prof Dr Christina Voigt (Chair of the World Commission on Environmental Law) and Counsel Prof Dr Francesco Sindico (Co-Chair of the Commission\u2019s Climate Change Law Specialist Group) will chart the journey of IUCN before the Court and explain the key points presented by IUCN throughout the written and oral proceedings. Members of the core drafting group are invited to provide their reflections. It will be an opportunity to learn more about the proceedings, IUCN\u2019s involvement therein and the implications stemming therefrom both for IUCN and its members.
