Call for Abstracts, Papers, and Submissions:<\/strong>

Decolonial Geographies of Climate Change – 2025 American Association of Geographers Conference<\/strong> (abstracts<\/em>)
We invite contributions that see decolonization of climate change as an active force of remaking that decenters and reframes the ongoing domination of Eurocentric, patriarchal, racist, and sexist norms in climate discussions. What is at stake in terms like adaptability, sustainability, resilience, recovery and development is a normative language that often renews the very architectures of value, asymmetry, material politics and forms of exploitation that have created a historically injurious environment. Towards this end, we call on decolonial and allied scholars to actively reckon with how we can discursively and materially foster other notions of wellbeing, inclusiveness, care, and prosperity that offer counterhegemonic epistemologies and praxis of climate change as things to feel, as embodied, as place-based, from which lessons can be learned, trialled, relearned, in reflexive processes to unlearn and transform the current

European Society of International Law Annual Conference 2025<\/strong> (abstracts<\/em>)
For the last decade, international law has gone through a period of turbulence. In response, it is time to move beyond crisis narratives and adopt a forward-looking approach. For such an undertaking, the year 2025 offers an appropriate context. It will mark the 80th birthday of the United Nations, the institutional centre of the international legal order. At the same time, 2025 is just five years away from 2030 when the future direction of the current blueprint for global social order, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), will need to be decided.\u00a0The theme of “Reconstructing International Law” offers a framework for creatively thinking ahead in institutional, normative, historical, and theoretical terms but also across the various legal regimes in international law. It also requires a dialogue with academics from other disciplines such as political science, history, and sociology. Abstracts of no more than 500 words should be sent by January 31, 2025<\/strong>. The European Climate Foundation (ECF) is a major philanthropic initiative working to help tackle the climate crisis by fostering the transition to a net-zero emission society at the national, European and global level. We support around 700 partner organisations to carry out activities that drive urgent and ambitious policy in support of the objectives of the Paris Agreement, contribute to the public debate on climate action and help deliver a socially responsible transition to a net-zero economy and sustainable society in Europe and around the world. Our France programme team aims at a broad spectrum of partners and measures, across party lines and beyond natural allies to foster the broad-based societal support and economic changes needed for the transformation. The Sabin Center, Renewable Energy Legal Defense Initiative Fellow<\/strong> (New York, US<\/em>)
The Sabin Center seeks a\u00a0Renewable Energy Legal Defense Initiative (RELDI)<\/a>fellow to be hired at the postdoctoral research scholar level. Launched in 2019, RELDI adds legal firepower to the advocacy strategies employed by renewable energy advocates, and aids individuals, community groups, and advocacy organizations by providing them pro bono representation in courtrooms, before state utility commissions, in local zoning boards, and in other administrative contexts, to press for the rapid development of utility- and community-scale renewable energy.\u00a0Application deadline: November 29, 2024<\/strong>. University of Wisconsin-Madison, Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor: Sustainable Land Use, Conservation & Justice<\/strong> (Wisconsin, US<\/em>)
We seek a scholar with a transdisciplinary approach and strong qualitative research skills based in geography, anthropology, political ecology, sociology or related fields whose research explores the intersections of land use, conservation and justice. We seek a colleague who will contribute to the Nelson Institute’s commitment to advancing environmental stewardship and social justice through a focus on environmental and racial justice, decolonizing relationships with Native communities, and diversifying the constituency for environmental issues and action. The Advisory Opinion of the ICJ and Climate Justice<\/strong> (online<\/em>)
What started as a climate justice initiative by the students from the Pacific Islands, led to the United Nations General Assembly adopting the resolution seeking for the advisory opinion on climate justice, led to the International Court of Justice; the ICJ is set to start the hearings on its first ever climate case on the 2nd of December. This webinar is organised by Asian Research Institute for Environmental Law, World’s Youth for Climate Justice (WYCJ) and Indonesian Center for Environmental Law. Development Dialogues: The Rights of Future Generations after the Summit of the Future<\/strong> (online<\/em>)
This timely event, featuring experts drawn from different world regions, explores the prospects for future generations\u2019 rights and international inter-generational justice following the Summit and the Special Rapporteur on the right to development\u2019s recent report on \u201cRight to development of children and future generations\u201d (A\/HRC\/57\/43).\u00a0 It will explore questions including: to what extent do the Pact\/Declaration move forward protection of future generations\u2019 right in terms of international human rights law and international law more generally? How can the progress made at the Summit be embedded in rights-related decision-making processes at international and national levels? What is left to be done? International Law Weekend 2024<\/strong> (in person – New York<\/em>)
Each October, the American Branch presents International Law Weekend (ILW) in New York City. This two-and-a-half-day conference features over 30 panels, and many of the world\u2019s leading international lawyers and diplomats participate. Panels include ‘Protection of People at Sea: Human Rights on the Oceans,’ ‘Recognition and Enforcement of the Human Right to a Healthy Environment: Parallel Proceedings in International Courts,’ and ‘Powerless and Unlawful: Protecting the Rights of Climate Refugees.’ Date: October 24-26, 2024<\/strong>.
