Call for Abstracts, Papers, and Submissions:<\/strong>

Litigation and Dispute Resolution in Transnational Ecological Conflicts – The role of judicial and non-judicial mechanisms<\/strong> (call for abstracts<\/em>)
The ERC\u00a0Curiae Virides\u00a0Research Project hosted by the\u00a0Brussels School of Governance\u00a0(Vrije Universiteit Brussel\u00a0(VUB)), and funded by the\u00a0European Research Council\u00a0(ERC) of the\u00a0European Union, in collaboration with the\u00a0Public Law Department of the Law & Criminology Faculty of the VUB, the\u00a0International Peace Information Service\u00a0(IPIS),\u00a0Avocats sans Fronti\u00e8res, the\u00a0Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law\u00a0(RWI), and the\u00a0Global Network of Human Rights and the Environment\u00a0(GNHRE) are organising a hybrid workshop in Arusha (Tanzania) on the role of judicial and non-judicial mechanisms in solving transnational ecological conflicts. The workshop will take place on the 19th, 20th and 21st of November 2024. Irish Yearbook of International Law<\/strong> (papers<\/em>)
The Editors of the Irish Yearbook of International Law invite submissions on any area of public or private international law for publication as an article in the Yearbook. Submissions are normally 10,000 to 12,000 words in length, although longer pieces will be considered. Submissions, comprising a brief 100-word abstract, article referenced in OSCOLA style, and confirmation of exclusive submission, should be sent to James Gallen (james.gallen@dcu.ie) by October 31, 2024<\/strong>. Opportunities:<\/strong>

University College London – Climate Policy Creative Fellowship<\/strong> (London, England<\/em>)
Policy to tackle climate change is not keeping up with the risks posed by climate change. There are lots of reasons for this but one of them is that climate risk information produced by scientists could be communicated in a way that is more helpful for decision-makers in the policy community.\u00a0This programme responds to the need for science, arts and policy communities to collaborate on dynamic strategies for decision-making in response to climate risk.\u00a0Through this Fellowship, participants will develop the skills, knowledge and practice to help policy audiences engage with climate risk information in ways that could improve their decisions.\u00a0Submit expressions of interest by August 28, 2024<\/strong>. See more here<\/a>. This Fellowship is for\u00a0experienced creative storytellers<\/strong>\u00a0who are keen to use their skills to enable policy action on climate change.

Center for Environmental Rights – Programme Head: Pollution and Climate Change<\/strong> (Cape Town or Johannesburg, South Africa<\/em>)
The Centre for Environmental Rights is looking for a senior attorney to head, manage and direct our Pollution and Climate Change programme. Based in Cape Town or Johannesburg, this position is for an admitted attorney or advocate with 5 or more years\u2019 litigation and legal advocacy experience post qualification, to strategically direct and oversee a number of environmental and Constitutional rights-based litigations in the programme. The candidate should have a particular interest in advocating for better environmental laws, litigating on behalf of affected communities, civil society organisations; and facilitating networking among relevant stakeholders and supporting activists. University of Copenhagen – Postdoctoral Researcher<\/strong> (Copenhagen, Denmark<\/em>)
Within EXPRESS2, the postdoctoral position at CLIMA aims to shed light on the climate and biodiversity related stressors for the social contract in the EU. The current social contract, which holds the balance between economic and social imperatives, is facing new and deeper divides due to environmental constraints. These constraints refer to the undergoing ecological crisis that produces a new landscape of vulnerable groups and rights and responsibilities of countries, citizens, and stakeholders. We are seeking an enthusiastic and outstanding post-doctoral candidate with a strong interest in environmental and climate change law and EU Law. Application deadline: September 1, 2024<\/strong>. Irish Yearbook of International Law – from PhD to Published<\/strong> (webinar<\/em>)
The Editors of the Irish Yearbook of International Law are hosting a webinar for international law PhD students and Early Career Scholars who are new to academic publishing. We will share tips on turning a PhD chapter into an article, how to write a good book review, and what editors look for in terms of publication criteria. Trade and climate change: managing policies on the road to net zero<\/strong> (in-person and online<\/em>)
Trade and climate change policies have become increasingly interwoven. Subsidies for green industries often provoke tariffs, such as US actions over Chinese solar panels and electric vehicles. The European Union\u2019s Emission Trading System (ETS) has set an increasingly high price on carbon emissions. But if high emission industries like steel, simply relocate and European consumers then buy the imported steel, this \u201ccarbon leakage\u201d undermines the original policy. To tackle this problem, the European Union has introduced the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) which seeks to tax such imports to prevent carbon leakage \u2013 and to encourage other countries to also introduce carbon taxes. The UK is planning the same. But many countries are unhappy, claiming this is simply disguised protectionism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To debate these issues, we bring together one of the designers of the CBAM, former MEP Luis Garicano, an LSE economic policy expert together with Maisa Rojas Corradi from Chile, a representative of the global South who potentially lose out from these policies.
