Graduate Conference 2024 – The Future of Equality<\/strong> (abstracts<\/em>)
The Cat\u00f3lica Research Centre for the Future of Law<\/a> in Lisbon, Portugal, will be hosting the Cat\u00f3lica Graduate Legal Research Conference – The Future of Equality on September 27, 2024. We welcome submissions from Ph.D. and postdoctoral researchers on the following topics: The constitutional\/human rights-based protection of equality; The interpretation and application of equality in private law; Intergenerational justice and equality; The interaction between technological innovation and the protection of equality; The protection of minorities and fragilized communities and equality; The international and transnational implementation of equality; The legal-dogmatic meaning of equality. More-Than-Human Rights: Interdisciplinary Perspectives for Earthly Flourishing Conference<\/strong> (abstracts<\/em>)
Join us for the conference More-Than-Human Rights: Interdisciplinary Perspectives for Earthly Flourishing<\/em>, organized by the More Than Human Life (MOTH) Project<\/a> at the Center for Human Rights and Global Justice<\/a> at NYU School of Law. The conference will be held on March 11th and 12th, 2025 at NYU Law in New York City. To participate in the conference, please submit an application using the provided link <\/a>before August 31st, 2024<\/strong>. Your application should include a brief summary (250 words) of the original paper (up to 10,000 words) you intend to present at the conference. Sign On: Academic Call for the Council of Europe to Recognise the Right to a Healthy Environment<\/strong>
Join your voice to ours: in the face of ongoing environmental challenges, academics, scholars, researchers and practitioners working on the intersection of human rights and the environment across disciplines on justice, gender equality, social and economic inclusion, the environment and climate as well as those involved with trade unions, legal practices, and scientific bodies have come together to call on the Member States of the Council of Europe to protect the right to a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment through an additional protocol to the European Convention on Human Rights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This letter follows the call<\/a> of over 450 civil society, social movements, and Indigenous Peoples organizations to explicitly recognize the right to a clean, healthy and sustainable environment in the European Human Rights Framework. See GNHRE’s call here<\/a>.

Center for Climate Crime Analysis<\/strong> (Law & Investigations Associate<\/em>)
CCCA is looking for a Law & Investigations Associate for its Methane Program. Methane emissions are a crucial piece of the climate puzzle. New data on methane emissions is becoming available and this program seeks to maximize its impact. CCCA will use this data to put pressure on emitters and their enablers (regulators, financiers, customers\u2026) through legal action and advocacy. The ideal candidate combines investigative and legal experience, has excellent analytical and communication skills that allow them to convey complex factual and legal issues tailored to targeted audiences (including those without a legal background), and is able to integrate non-legal analysis into the legal and advocacy strategies at the core of the program. University of the West of England, Bristol<\/strong> (Lecturer\/Senior Lecturer<\/em>)
We are currently recruiting x2 Lecturers\/Senior Lecturers to teach on UG and PG Academic Law programmes. Working with an experienced team of Academic Law colleagues, successful candidates will teach, assess and support students on the LLB and LLM programmes. Conservation International<\/strong> (Manager, High Seas Program<\/em>)
The Manager, High Seas Program will work with the High Seas Program Lead to build and manage a program of work at Conservation International (CI) focused on the equitable conservation of biodiversity and cultural heritage in areas beyond national jurisdiction. A primary focus of the Manager, High Seas Program will be to provide management, technical, and programmatic support for the Coral Reefs of the High Seas Coalition, a global alliance of partners convened by Conservation International that aims to protect coral reefs in the High Seas. Climate Finance and Child Rights<\/strong> (online<\/em>)
This peer-exchange webinar on Climate finance and child rights is the third and last of three webinars taking place during June, dedicated to Climate and Child Rights. In this webinar you will learn about what climate finance has to do with the realisation of children\u2019s rights, what child-centred climate finance is about and the challenges around establishing such climate finance mechanisms. This webinar is a collaboration between Save the Children\u2019s (SC) Safety Nets and Resilient Families goal team and related working groups and Child Rights governance team and technical working groups. It is open to SC staff and partner organizations. It is co-sponsored by the Sida-funded Global Civil Society Strengthening Program and the How to Child Rights Series which will support professional interpretation into English, French and Spanish. Global Trends in Climate Litigation<\/strong> (in person and online<\/em>)
In 2023 we also saw major developments in climate litigation involving forests and biodiversity, with new cases concerning the use of forest land grabs for carbon offsetting and others challenging the impacts of new \u2018clean\u2019 energy projects on biodiversity. Not all climate cases are filed to advance climate action, and 2023 also saw significant challenges to new climate policy and legislation filed by a range of stakeholders. This phenomenon risks exacerbating a widening gulf between what is expected of investors in the US and elsewhere particularly in Europe. The event will be chaired by Dr. Carmen Nuzzo, Executive Director of the TPI Center, and will begin with a short presentation from authors Joana Setzer and Catherine Higham on the findings of the Grantham Research Institute\u2019s 2024 Global Trends in Climate Change Litigation Policy Report. Strategic Litigation on Climate Equality<\/strong> (online<\/em>)
Litigation on climate change is occurring around the world at national, regional and international levels. Many of these cases raise equality issues pointing to the unequal impacts of climate change on a range of vulnerable groups, but equality law arguments are not always front and center in these cases. This symposium brings together practitioners and scholars to exchange ideas, knowledge and strategic insights on the use of equality law in climate litigation.
