Join your voice to ours:<\/strong> in the face of ongoing environmental challenges, academics, scholars, researchers and practitioners working on the intersection of human rights and the environment across disciplines on justice, gender equality, social and economic inclusion, the environment and climate as well as those involved with trade unions, legal practices, and scientific bodies have come together to call on the Member States of the Council of Europe to protect the right to a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment through an additional protocol to the European Convention on Human Rights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This letter follows the call<\/a> of over 450 civil society, social movements, and Indigenous Peoples organizations to explicitly recognize the right to a clean, healthy and sustainable environment in the European Human Rights Framework. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We respectfully ask you to endorse this letter and to share this call as widely as possible with your colleagues. The legal protection of this vital right is long overdue! <\/strong> An additional protocol would not only strengthen the existing legal system but also enhance the European Court of Human Rights’ ability to protect a wide range of environmental rights. It would also send a strong signal to both national and international communities, affirming Europe’s commitment to tackling the environmental crisis and providing its citizens with an enforceable right to a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nous vous demandons respectueusement de soutenir cette lettre et de partager cet appel aussi largement que possible avec vos coll\u00e8gues. La protection juridique de ce droit vital n’a que trop tard\u00e9! <\/strong> Un protocole additionnel ne renforcerait pas seulement le syst\u00e8me juridique existant, mais aussi la capacit\u00e9 de la Cour europ\u00e9enne des droits de l’homme \u00e0 prot\u00e9ger un large \u00e9ventail de droits environnementaux. Il enverrait \u00e9galement un signal fort aux communaut\u00e9s nationales et internationales, affirmant l’engagement de l’Europe \u00e0 s’attaquer \u00e0 la crise environnementale et \u00e0 fournir \u00e0 ses citoyens un droit ex\u00e9cutoire \u00e0 un environnement propre, sain et durable. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wir bitten Sie h\u00f6flich, diesen Brief zu unterst\u00fctzen und diesen Aufruf so weit wie m\u00f6glich mit Ihren Kollegen zu teilen. Der rechtliche Schutz dieses wichtigen Rechts ist l\u00e4ngst \u00fcberf\u00e4llig! <\/strong> Ein Zusatzprotokoll w\u00fcrde nicht nur das bestehende Rechtssystem st\u00e4rken, sondern auch den Europ\u00e4ischen Gerichtshof f\u00fcr Menschenrechte in die Lage versetzen, ein breites Spektrum von Umweltrechten zu sch\u00fctzen.
