Considering the continental scope of the book, chapters are encouraged from a wide range of regions and countries as well as those adopting comparative approaches across the continent. Water Security and Environmental Law in the Middle East and North African (MENA) Region<\/strong> (abstracts<\/em>)
The 6th\u00a0Scientific Conference of the Association of Environmental Law Lecturers in Middle East and North African Universities (ASSELLMU) is proposed to be held on\u00a0February 24-25, 2025\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0at\u00a0the Faculty of Arab East Colleges, Saudi Arabia, with a view to exploring the role of comprehensive and effective environmental laws in advancing water security in arid and water stressed countries in the MENA region.\u00a0Environmental law teachers, scholars and legal practitioners, and other persons interested in the discipline of environmental law and policy from the MENA region, are invited to submit an abstract on any of the above four main substantive topics. The proposals should be of no more than 600 words. 7th Annual Conference of the International Law Association, Nigerian Branch<\/strong> (abstracts<\/em>)
The Nigerian Branch of the International Law Association welcomes the submission of abstracts for presentation at its 7th<\/sup>\u00a0Annual Conference scheduled to hold in Nigeria on April 9-10, 2025. Theme: Fostering Trade and Investment Integration for Sustainable Development: The Role of International Law.\u00a0<\/em>\u00a0<\/strong>We are specifically interested in papers that cover business and human rights, investment arbitration, sustainable trade, human rights and environment in the context of trade, and intellectual property regulation. University of Leeds – Net Zero Strategy and Engagement Lead <\/strong>
The University of Leeds has committed to an ambitious\u00a0Climate Plan<\/a>\u00a0in response to the climate crisis. The plan, which has an approved investment of \u00a3174m, includes the commitment to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2030. The University has developed a plan to achieve this target and is now seeking to build a dedicated team to deliver it. We are seeking an exceptional candidate to play a leading role in the delivery of the behavioural and enabling changes that will underpin the transition to net zero. You will be responsible for coordinating a team delivering changes to areas of operation including the University supply chain, sustainable laboratories, the University Farm, and ongoing behavioural change initiatives. Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development\/OECD <\/strong>(Modeller<\/em>)
The EEI Division is looking for a Modeller to contribute to the Environment Directorate (ENV) work based on the modelling tools operated by the team and the databases underlying the analysis (such input-output data and satellite accounts). The selected candidate will report to the Team Lead and is expected to work closely together with the other team members. Strategic climate litigation in practice: The Klimaatzaak (Belgium) – Guest lecture by Prof. Carole Billiet <\/strong>(in person, Brussels<\/em>)
We are very happy to welcome Prof. Carole Billiet who will navigate us to the backstage of the Klimaatzaak, as she will introduce the litigation strategy and the legal procedure from a practitioner’s perspective.\u00a0The guest lecture will be held in the framework of the BSoG-Vesalius College Summer Programme: Strategic Climate Change Litigation – Exploring social and legal dimensions (led by Kata Dozsa). The event is free to attend (only in-person) but\u00a0registration is mandatory.\u00a0The guest lecture will be\u00a0limited to 20 participants, on a first come first served basis. South Africa’s Climate Change Act: Opportunities for advocacy-based pressure and litigation<\/strong> (online<\/em>)
The Climate Change Act is South Africa\u2019s first overarching statute dedicated to managing the country\u2019s climate change response. This framework law manages institutional arrangements, mitigation and adaptation measures by establishing principles and assigning duties to a range of roleplayers, including organs of state and emitters. This presentation will highlight some of these duties, and discusses how the Act\u2019s provisions may pave the way for bringing pressure for effective action to bear on emitters and the state.
