Call for Abstracts, Papers, and Submissions:<\/strong>

Climate (In)justice: How Climate Change Affects Children\u2019s Access to Justice <\/strong>(workshop proposals<\/em>)
As we confront the intertwined crises of climate change, economic instability, and geopolitical turmoil, the vulnerable situations in which children find themselves in are ever more evident. This year, the 3rd CFJ-EN Annual Seminar, organised in partnership with\u00a0Terre des hommes Foundation (Tdh)<\/a>\u00a0and CICS.NOVA<\/a>, will explore how climate change places structural pressures on justice systems which should be designed to respect the rights of children. Specifically, it will look at how strategic climate litigation and enforcing children\u2019s right to freedom of association and peaceful assembly can help guarantee their access to justice within the context of the climate crisis. SMU-Leiden Workshop on Green Regionalism<\/strong> (abstracts<\/em>)
Since the Brundtland Report defined the concept of sustainable development, climate actions have gained prominence in key sustainability initiatives such as the UN\u2019s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the 2015 Paris Agreement. Both the UN and the WTO recognize the role of the international trade framework in promoting climate governance and a green economy. However, the implementation of the trade-sustainability linkage remains controversial. The workshop aims to explore green regionalism from comparative and interdisciplinary perspectives. In addition to the EU model, the workshop will examine trade-sustainability initiatives in \u201clean integration,\u201d which refers to less elaborate or legalized forms of regionalism potentially more suitable for developing countries. 500-word abstracts must be submitted by August 1, 2024<\/strong>. Call for submissions on Colombia in advance of visit \u2013 Special Rapporteur on extreme poverty and human rights<\/strong>
Purpose:<\/strong>\u00a0To invite all interested individuals and organizations, including civil society organizations, activists, and academics, to provide input on the priority issues listed below to assist the Special Rapporteur in preparing for the visit to Colombia. University of Oxford<\/strong> (Postdoctoral Researcher<\/em>)
We are looking for a talented postdoctoral researcher to join the Oxford Martin Programme on Net Zero Policy and Regulation. This is an exciting role at the centre of a critical new research endeavour. Reporting to the Programme\u2019s Principle Investigators (Professor Thomas Hale<\/a>\u00a0and \u00a0Dr Thom Wetzer<\/a>), the Postdoctoral Research Fellow\u2019s primary role will be to carry out original, world-class academic research, both independently and in collaboration with the Programme research team. University of Copenhagen<\/strong> (PhD Researcher<\/em>)
The Center for Climate Change Law and Governance (CLIMA) at the Faculty of Law of the University of Copenhagen in collaboration with The Global Maritime Forum (GMF) is seeking applicants for a PhD position on the topic of \u2018Trade and Climate Change Interactions in the Regulation of Shipping Greenhouse Gas Emissions after the 2023 IMO Revised Strategy\u2019.<\/strong> The position is available from 1 October 2024, or as soon as possible thereafter, for a 3 year-period. Expanding Horizons: The ITLOS Advisory Opinion on Climate Change <\/strong>(online<\/em>)
Join us for a webinar co-hosted by Columbia Law School\u2019s Sabin Center for Climate Change Law, the European Society of International Law, and the American Society of International Law. In the webinar, legal experts from across the globe will discuss the advisory opinion on climate change and international law issued by the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS) on May 21. The opinion, which was issued in response to a request from the Commission of Small Island States on Climate Change and International Law, declares that anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions are a source of marine pollution under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). Having made that declaration, ITLOS then articulates specific obligations that State Parties to UNCLOS have to prevent, reduce, and control such pollution. Date: May 28, 2024 at 9:00AM ET<\/strong>. Ecological conflicts: judicial and non-judicial responses in Central Asia<\/strong>, hosted by the ERC Curiae Virides Project (online<\/em>)
Transnational ecological conflicts<\/a>\u00a0can result from cross-border environmental impacts such as biodiversity loss and water pollution, but can also arise from the localized activities of transnational actors. In Central Asia, there are ecological conflicts which are being litigated at the international and national level. For instance, in\u00a0International Mining Company Invest v Kyrgyz Republic<\/em><\/a>\u00a0a mining company is seeking compensation for the country\u2019s ban on uranium mining.\u00a0<\/em>In Kazakhstan, national tribunals have been involved in various disputes whereby operators face\u00a0fines<\/a>\u00a0due to the violation of environmental law. Consequently, there is a real need to understand Central Asia\u2019s transboundary ecological issues and how judicial or quasi-judicial mechanisms are (not) being used.
