Call for Abstracts, Papers, and Submissions:<\/strong>

Workshop for PhD candidates on ius ad bellum and ius in bello<\/strong> (abstracts<\/em>)
An in-person only workshop held on Tuesday 9 July 2024 at\u00a0Bristol Law School<\/a>, Frenchay Campus, UWE Bristol, organised by the\u00a0Research in Public International Law (RIPIL) research group<\/a>. The aim of the event is to provide a platform for PhD candidates to present and discuss their work in progress with their peers, and network.\u00a0To facilitate discussion between the PhD candidates, this event will be\u00a0in-person only<\/strong>. Applications to present will be evaluated based on a 500-word abstract. Applications, including the abstract, must be submitted by\u00a0June 9, 2024<\/strong>. Defund Meat Conference<\/strong> (call for engaged listeners<\/em>)
This conference revisits the \u2018meat question\u2019 in the contemporary social, political, and legal context. Meat is an embodied symbol of the mounting and interrelated environmental and public health crises that have become characteristic of our era (which may be best described as the Anthropocene and One Health era): climate change, biodiversity loss, deforestation, pandemics, food insecurity, unhealthy and unsustainable diets, and institutionalised animal suffering. This interdisciplinary conference seeks to move the meat question from the margins into the spotlight of the ongoing debates on One Health, sustainability, climate change, food security, and public health. The MPIL invites\u00a0doctoral and postdoctoral researchers<\/strong>\u00a0to apply as ‘engaged listeners’. Engaged listeners do not give a talk but are expected to participate actively in the discussions. Please\u00a0apply\u00a0<\/strong>via our\u00a0online application system<\/a>\u00a0with CV and letter of motivation (max. 500 words) by July 15, 2024<\/strong>. The conference will be held at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law in Heidelberg on Thursday and Friday,\u00a0January 16-17, 2025<\/strong>. See more here<\/a>.

Call for submissions on Colombia in advance of visit \u2013 Special Rapporteur on extreme poverty and human rights<\/strong>
Purpose:<\/strong>\u00a0To invite all interested individuals and organizations, including civil society organizations, activists, and academics, to provide input on the priority issues listed below to assist the Special Rapporteur in preparing for the visit to Colombia. UNSW, Sydney<\/strong>\u00a0(Lecturer\/Senior Lecturer \u2013 Climate Litigation<\/em>)
This is a newly created, full-time \u2018Lecturer\/Senior Lecturer \u2013 Climate Litigation\u2019 position at the Law & Justice Faculty at UNSW in Sydney, Australia. Working in Law & Justice and with the university\u2019s\u00a0Institute for Climate Risk and Response<\/a>\u00a0(ICRR), the person will be required to undertake a program of research that will have significant impact in the scholarship related to the field of climate litigation in Australia and globally and will create a nationally recognised research track record. The person will apply and, where necessary, adapt existing research methods, and develop new methods, to the study of climate litigation. Application deadline:\u00a0May 30, 2024<\/strong>. University of Utrecht <\/strong>(Postdoctoral Researcher<\/em>)
As a postdoctoral researcher you will be working on a subproject within the Consolidator Grant project EcoViolence (2024\u20132029) funded by the European Research Council (ERC) and directed by\u00a0Dr Susanne C. Knittel<\/a>\u00a0(Principal Investigator, PI) at the\u00a0department of Languages, Literature, and Communication<\/a>. EcoViolence is an interdisciplinary, transnational, and comparative study of the cultural imaginary of environmental violence. The project\u2019s aim is to understand how contemporary culture frames and remembers environmental degradation\u00a0as violence<\/em>; how it can make visible the deep historical roots that tie eco-violence to other histories of violence, especially colonialism and genocide; and how it articulates and reflects on questions of guilt, responsibility, and implication. Universit\u00e9 Catholique de Lille<\/strong> (Associate Professor<\/em>)
Position: Associate Professor of International and European Law. The candidate must have a specialisation in international and\/or European law (EU law, human rights, etc.) in both research and teaching activities. The candidate must be fluent in French (C2) and English (C2). Any additional language skills are highly appreciated, particularly if they relate to the areas of comparative law developed at the Faculty of Law (German, Spanish). Earth Law Summer Course 2024<\/strong> (online<\/em>)
We are thrilled to announce Earth Law Center\u2019s 2024 Summer Course is open for registration. Students will learn from global experts in the emerging field of Earth law, including the Rights of Nature and other transformative, Earth-centered legal paradigms. This award-winning program has educated hundreds of students, some of which are now leading practitioners in the field. Classes will be on Mondays and Wednesdays, 10:30am to 12:30pm Eastern Daylight Time, June 3\u00a0to\u00a0July 10, 2024<\/strong>. Human and Environmental Rights at risk under Land-Based Investments in Emerging Markets<\/strong> (online<\/em>)
To commemorate this year\u2019s World Environment Day, it is important to examine how development projects in Africa do not undermine democratic governance and worsen human and environmental rights. Consequently, this webinar – hosted by ILA-Nigeria – will discuss the impacts of climate change and development projects, land-based investments, and other sustainability projects, on human rights including the rights of local communities, indigenous peoples, and marginalized groups.
