{"id":10143,"date":"2018-05-11T08:38:11","date_gmt":"2018-05-11T08:38:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gnhre.org\/?p=10143"},"modified":"2023-08-15T19:48:01","modified_gmt":"2023-08-15T18:48:01","slug":"ppt-session-on-human-rights-fracking-and-climate-change","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gnhre.org\/?p=10143","title":{"rendered":"PPT Session on Human Rights, Fracking, and Climate Change"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Spring Creek Project at Oregon State University will co-host the\u00a0<strong>Permanent Peoples\u2019 Tribunal Session on\u00a0<em>Human Rights, Fracking, and Climate Change<\/em>\u00a0from May 14 to 18, 2018.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/permanentpeoplestribunal.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/Panel-of-the-Judges-Fracking_final.pdf\">The panel of judges of the Permanent Peoples\u2019 Tribunal<\/a>\u00a0will be asked to provide an\u00a0<strong>advisory opinion\u00a0<\/strong>on four central questions:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Under what circumstances do fracking and other unconventional oil and gas extraction techniques breach human rights protected by international law as a matter of treaty or custom?<\/li>\n<li>Under what circumstances do fracking and other unconventional oil and gas extraction techniques warrant the issuance of either provisional measures, a judgment enjoining further activity, remediation relief, or damages for causing environmental harm?<\/li>\n<li>What is the extent of responsibility and liability of States and non-State actors for violations of human rights and for environmental and climate harm caused by these oil and gas extraction techniques?<\/li>\n<li>What is the extent of responsibility and liability of States and non-State actors, both legal and moral, for violations of the rights of nature related to environmental and climate harm caused by these unconventional oil and gas extraction techniques?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>For the first time this session of the Permanent Peoples\u2019 Tribunal will be hosted completely online.\u00a0 Attorneys and witnesses will convene via<strong>\u00a0Zoom web conferencing software<\/strong>\u00a0each day to present evidence and testimony to the panel of the judges of the Permanent Peoples\u2019 Tribunal.<\/p>\n<p>The proceedings will be streamed on the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/springcreekproject\/\">Spring Creek Project Facebook page<\/a>\u00a0and in the OSU Student Experience Center.
