Emerging Voices in International Law: Crisis as Catalyst (abstracts)
This October 23-25, the American Branch will host International Law Weekend (ILW) 2025 in New York City. The ILW Organizing Committee invites the submission of abstracts relating to the theme of “Crisis as Catalyst in International Law.” We will select several abstracts for presentation at ILW 2025 as part of a panel of new and emerging professionals. Eligibility is restricted to applicants who are current graduate students (master’s, PhD, JD, etc.) or junior scholars or professionals who have been working in the field of international law for five years or fewer. ABILA has secured funding to provide need-based reimbursement of Emerging Voices panelists’ travel and hotel costs, insofar as those costs are not covered by their institutions. Environmental Law in A Digital Age (abstracts)
The 7th Scientific Conference of the Association of Environmental Law Lecturers in Middle East and North African Universities (ASSELLMU) will be held on February 9-10, 2026, at Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi, with a view to exploring the role of technology and digitalization in the teaching, research, practice and implementation of environmental law and policy in the MENA region. We invite abstracts of papers exploring the conference themes that offer significant academic contributions to environmental, digital, and technology law scholarship in the MENA region. 8th International Conference on The Right to Development (abstracts)
The Free State Centre for Human Rights, University of the Free State, South Africa, in collaboration with the Department of Law and Political Science, University of Siena, Italy, the Centre for Human Rights, University of Pretoria, South Africa, the Human Rights Centre, University of Dayton, USA, Universidade Autonomia de Lisboa, Portugal, and the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights will present the eighth International Conference on the Right to Development under the theme “critical minerals and the right to development.” Individual/Group Presentations: Submit a short abstract of no more than 300 words and a short CV/bio (150 words) on or by August 17, 2025. Biodiversity and Human Rights
Purpose: To inform the High Commissioner’s global analytical study on the implementation of a human rights-based approach into the goals and targets of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, in line with the provisions of the Convention on Biological Diversity, consistent with the considerations set out in section C of the Framework and taking into consideration the outcomes of the sixteenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention. Best Practices, Challenges and Lessons Learned Concerning Integrated Approaches to the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights and the Implementation of the 2030 Agenda at the Global Level
Purpose: To inform the report on best practices, challenges and lessons learned concerning integrated approaches to the promotion and protection of human rights and the implementation of the 2030 Agenda at the global level pursuant to the Human Rights Council resolution A/HRC/RES/52/14, adopted on 3 April 2023.

University of Sydney, Postdoctoral Research Associate – Australia’s Climate Economy (Sydney, Australia)
This project explores Australia’s emerging Climate Economy, investigating how climate change challenges conventional economic policy paradigms and redefines political economic concepts and practices. We want to understand how the pressures of climate change are reshaping governance, investment, and policy strategies in unexpected ways. The Postdoctoral Research Fellow will contribute to (1) mapping Australia’s climate economy; (2) investigating critical climate infrastructures, and (3) developing strategies for democratic engagement and policy impact. Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment, Research Assistant (London, England)
The role will be based primarily within the sovereign research team focusing on the delivery of the Assessing Sovereign Climate-related Opportunities and Risks (ASCOR) tool, which assesses countries (i.e. issuers of sovereign debt) based on their emissions targets and climate policies. The Transition Pathway Initiative Centre is the academic research expert for the investor-led ASCOR project, which was launched to integrate climate change into sovereign investment decisions and enable countries to showcase climate policy progress to an investor audience.
