European Energy & Climate Journal (articles)
The European Energy & Climate Journal presents accessible coverage on the key legal and regulatory energy issues and developments throughout Europe to practitioners and academics in the field. It reports recent and forthcoming legislative and regulatory changes in the areas of energy policy, internal market, energy competition law, energy security, energy efficiency, renewable energy and climate change. The Editors of the European Energy and Climate Journal are pleased to invite submissions for practical, topical articles on any aspect of European energy and climate law and policy. Barcelona Workshop on Global Governance 2025 (abstracts)
Effective global governance is needed more than ever. Yet, nearly everywhere, it is being contested—and, in many cases, undermined. States recognize the need for cooperation but are increasingly at odds over global rulemaking amidst geopolitical tensions, crises, and war. At the same time, global governance is under pressure from within as polarization, protectionism, and nationalist movements have grown across many regions. In the emerging battle for global governance, institutions are being pulled apart and undermined by actors with opposing interests and values.

However, there are important countertrends. In some issue areas—climate change, taxation, and nuclear non-proliferation, for instance—global governance appears to have advanced despite deep-seated differences between actors. In others, conflict and strategic competition seem to have become important drivers of cross-border cooperation. The upcoming (8th) iteration of the Barcelona Workshop on Global Governance aims to unpack and analyze these emergent patterns. We invite abstract proposals from interested scholars from all disciplines, and especially encourage those from early career researchers, women, and people of colour. Commission for Environmental Cooperation – Environmental Justice Officer (Montreal, Canada)
The Commission for Environmental Cooperation (CEC) is an international organization created by Canada, Mexico and the United States (Parties) under the North American Agreement on Environmental Cooperation (NAAEC) and continued under the Environmental Cooperation Agreement (ECA). The Secretariat of the CEC is headquartered in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. This is a full-time, two-year position with the possibility of renewal, based at the CEC Secretariat in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. A hybrid arrangement may be considered in the future. The EJ Officer will work closely with the CEC’s various units and with external partners, organizations, public officials and community leaders to support the advancement of environmental justice (EJ) across North America and across the CEC’s programs, initiatives and operations. Harvard Law School Environmental & Energy Law Fellowship (United States)
Harvard Law School’s Environmental and Energy Law Program (EELP) is seeking a Legal Fellow for fall 2025-2026 with the potential to renew for one additional year. The fellowship is a full-time, in-person position in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The Fellow will provide legal research and analysis on a range of current issues in environmental and energy law, including regulatory actions to address climate change and environmental protection. The Fellow may also have the opportunity to develop new projects independently and collaboratively with EELP colleagues, to provide rigorous legal analysis to advance deep decarbonization and protect public health and welfare. GELC Webinar: Litigating Climate Change in the Global South (webinar)
A farmer suing his government for violating his constitutional rights through failing to implement the country’s declared climate policy frameworks. A coalition of environmental non-governmental organizations (NGOs) working with local communities to oppose the authorization of a large, new coal-fired power plant. Political parties bringing suit to the highest court of the land to take issue with the non-operationalization of the government’s financial mechanism for funding climate mitigation and adaptation actions. Young people opposing large-scale deforestation which threatens their climate future and that of future generations. These are just some examples of a new phenomenon of climate cases emerging in developing countries of the so-called ‘Global South’. Drawing from their book, “Litigating Climate Change in the Global South”, the speakers will discuss the emerging and accelerating phenomenon of climate litigation in the Global South. Early Environmental Law Scholars (EELS) Conference (in person, White Plains, NY)
Early Environmental Law Scholars (EELS) seeks to foster community building, idea exchange, and professional development for emerging scholars in the field. The inaugural edition of the EELS conference will be held at the Elisabeth Haub School of Law at Pace University in White Plains, NY on September 7, 2024. We will kick-off the conference the evening before (September 6) with a happy hour/reception. The event is open to junior academics, i.e. those with less than 7 years on the tenure-track and fellows/Visiting Assistant Professor (VAPs) teaching at U.S law schools. We are also inviting folks to join the Annual Future Environmental Law Professors Workshop on Friday, September 6, 2024, which will be held in-person the day before.
