Call for Abstracts, Papers, and Submissions:

Ecocide, Human Rights, and Environmental Justice (abstracts)
Interest in the crime of ecocide has ignited in recent years, following the proposed definition by an Independent Expert Panel in June 2021 as well as subsequent legislative developments in many jurisdictions. To advance the dynamic conversation, the International Journal of Human Rights will feature a special issue on “Ecocide, Human Rights, and Environmental Justice”. Articles are welcome from a range of disciplinary perspectives, on any facet of ecocide, human rights, and environmental justice. We particularly encourage views from the Global South. Contributions will appear online and in the IJHR, and authors may also be invited to include their contributions in a book publication, if there is sufficient interest. Short proposals (300 words max.) should be sent to editors@ecocidelaw.com by July 26, 2024, along with a brief bio (100 words max). Authors of accepted abstracts will be informed by September 1, 2024, and invited to submit articles of 6,000-9,000 words by February 28, 2025.

Yearbook Series on Law of the Sea (abstracts)
This volume will delve into the intricate relationship between the law of the sea and the protection of human rights. It will analyse how the law of the sea shapes the interpretation and application of human rights legal instruments and obligations, including those that embody peremptory rules of international law. Within this framework, the volume will examine how maritime spaces and resources are utilised by both States and non-State actors to either uphold human rights law or to perpetrate, facilitate, or prevent serious human rights violations of international concern, such as crimes against humanity, genocide, human trafficking, and ecocide. We are looking for someone who has a dynamic and innovative perspective to climate justice and is willing to: Support, align and advise country offices to deliver on the ActionAid federation’s policy, programme, project and campaign objectives on climate justice. Provide and facilitate technical advice, capacity building, information-sharing and fundraising support. Promote ActionAid’s feminist and human rights-based approach as the basis for rooted programmes, projects, policy development, campaigning and working with social movements. Iberian Centre for Research in Energy Storage – Postdoctoral Researcher (Spain)
The Iberian Centre for Research in Energy Storage (CIIAE) is looking for promising candidates interested in applying for a 3-year postdoc scheme funded by the Marie-Curie COFUND Talent4Iberia project. CIIAE undertakes research on everything related to energy storage as a key set of technologies for the energy transition, including on its legal aspects. Among the many potential topics of interest to be researched within the Talent4Iberia scheme and with a legal focus are: legal questions on the extraction of raw materials for batteries, sustainability criteria for hydrogen, energy market rules for the deployment of storage solutions, and energy justice-related issues. 12 Hour Global Climate Justice Conference (online)
To mark this moment, Centre for Climate Justice – Bangladesh (CCJ-B), Center for International Environmental Law (CIEL), Environmental Lawyers Collective for Africa, La Ruta Del Clima, Pacific Islands Students Fighting Climate Change, and World’s Youth for Climate Justice are organizing a Global Climate Justice Conference.
